National Farmers Union leaders are urging Senators to pass a clean reauthorization of the U.S. Grain Standards Act. NFU President Roger Johnson says the present framework of those rules overseen by the Federal Grain Inspection Service is working well and U.S. export customers have faith in that standard.
Johnson says his group has concerns with those who support privatizing inspections under the Grains Standards.
Johnson says the current inspection system ensures consistency, reliability and accuracy. He says another concern is with the the House Ag Committee’s legislation that would eliminate the agriculture secretary’s discretion to send in inspectors.
