One of the major Congressional priorities for National Farmers Union leaders this year is protecting the farm bill from being reopened or facing funding cuts.  NFU Senior Vice President of Programs Chandler Goule says the key is to keep the crop insurance program intact.

He says NFU will also work to restore the volume levels for the Renewable Fuel Standard and keep the Trans Pacific Partnership from being approved.

Goule says some countries are working quickly to ratify the TPP.  However, the longer the debate goes on in the U.S., the less chance it has of passing because of emerging problems.

Goule says sees problems with TPP as many member countries don’t intend obey the rules of the deal and if Congress passes TPP, the U.S. trade deficit will skyrocket.
