National Farmers Union Calls for Stronger Farm Safety Net

America’s farmers and ranchers who have been hurt by the trade war with China remain under financial stress and net farm income has been dropping as well. National Farmers Union President Roger Johnson says because of that, the farm safety net must be strengthened.

He says steps need to be taken to help younger farmers as he thinks many may go out of business in the coming year.

Johnson says the trade fight with China has only added to the strain U.S. agriculture has been under.

Johnson says there also needs to be incentives for farmers to cut production, especially given the enormous ending stocks of soybeans.
