The United States Commerce Department has started an anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigation aimed at biodiesel imports from Argentina and Indonesia. Jessica Robinson with the National Biodiesel Board’s says her group asked for the investigation. She says the Commerce Department heard preliminary arguments from both sides and determined there’s enough evidence to move forward.

Robinson says imports of biodiesel from Argentina and Indonesia increased by more than 460 percent from 2014 to 2016, while the countries gained about 18 percent of U.S. market share. She says the main thing the U.S. biodiesel industry wants as a result of the investigation is a level playing field and fair competition.

She says there will likely be a preliminary ruling from the Commerce Department this summer.

Robinson says NBB is also seeking help from the International Trade Commission on their trade complaint.
