National Biodiesel Board members are expressing disappointment with the renewable fuel volume levels for biodiesel released by the EPA on Friday. Last year, the agency set the 2019 biomass-based diesel levels at 2.1 billion gallons and 4.92 billion for advanced biofuels. EPA has now set 2020 mandated levels at 2.43 billion gallons for biodiesel. NBB member and Nebraska farmer Greg Anderson says that’s unfortunate because the industry has the ability to produce much more.
He says the EPA’s decision is also a setback for soybean farmers.
Anderson says the EPA’s mandated volume requirements also made it difficult for the biodiesel industry to have any certainty going forward.
Anderson says the method used by the EPA is inconsistent with the RFS program’s purpose which is to drive growth in production and use of advanced biofuels such as biodiesel.
