A bi-partisan group of Senators have written to the Environmental Protection Agency supporting the EPA’s proposal for 2020 biomass based biodiesel requirement of 2.43 billion gallons. National Biodiesel Board Director and Nebraska grower Greg Anderson says they appreciate the Senators voicing backing for the fuel.

The Senators also said in their letter the levels show the agency is underestimating the existing potential of biodiesel. Anderson agrees and says there’s no doubt the industry can produce even more fuel going forward.

He says biodiesel producers need certainty in order to expand and grow the industry.

In their letter, the Senators also said it’s critical the EPA appropriately account for any small refiner economic hardship exemptions that it reasonable expects to grant during the 2019 compliance year in the final rule.
