National Biodiesel Board members along with stakeholders and over 70 biodiesel company representatives asked House Leadership this week to move legislation approving the biodiesel tax credit. NBB’s Paul Winters says that incentive has been expired now for 15 months and there’s an urgent need to get it renewed.
He says they want the credit renewed and then eventually a longer term extension passed.
Winters says there’s also a biodiesel tax credit extension measure being considered in the Senate and they’re hoping to get movement on that too.
Winters says not having the credit in place has led to curtailing of investments in new biodiesel plants and capital projects to upgrade existing facilities. It’s also forcing some producers, blenders and distributors to cut back purchases of raw materials and deliveries of renewable fuel to consumers hurting the economy.
