National Association of Egg Farmer members want the House Senate Conference committee to include in their final farm bill, Congressman Steve King’s amendment, The Protect Interstate Commerce Act. Egg Association President Ken Klippen says Congress is suppose to regulate commerce among states but some states have passed laws regulating how eggs are produced outside the state and then imported into that state.
He says there’s misinformation being spread that hens raised in cage free environments are healthier when the opposite is the case.
Klippen says California’s law regulating how eggs are produced goes against the Commerce Clause of the U.S. Constitution and King’s amendment would fix that.T
Klippen says the language in the Protect Interstate Commerce Act ensures agricultural producers are not denied access to some of the nation’s largest markets.
