The Iowa Farmers Union supports The Food Security is National Security Act measure introduced in the Senate this week. Iowa Farmers Union President Aaron Lehman says if passed it would provide an important protection for the nation’s food supply and counter the recent mega mergers that have resulted in large foreign ownership of American agri-businesses.

He says the security of America’s food is at stake with the trend of foreign ownership in ag and food companies.

Lehman says other protections needed include strengthening anti-trust laws and increasing enforcement.

Lehman says the fact the measure is bi-partisan should enhance its chances for passage.
