The National Association of State Departments of Agriculture has announced their policy goals for 2019. Topping the list include: Congressional ratification of the USMCA, a fix to the ag labor problem and helping consumers better understand the need for ag biotechnology. North Dakota Ag Commissioner Doug Goehring is NASDA Vice President. He says ag labor issues hurt more than fruit and vegetable growers and it is a different problem than immigration.
He says it’s imperative that Congress ratify the USMCA and keep politics out of the discussion.
Goerhing says farmers need be able to use biotechnology and consumers need to be educated about its importance.
Goerhing says NASDA also wants Congress to work with the Food and Drug Administration and the states to effectively implement the Food, Safety and Modernization Act.
