President Donald Trump wants to move quickly on renegotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement. The deal involving the U.S., Canada and Mexico is 23 years old. North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture has recommendations for areas that need fixing, including Canada’s dairy pricing policy.
He says another change that need to be made is how Canada grades U.S. wheat. Currently Canada classifies U.S. wheat as feed grade, the lowest classification possible.
Goehring says one of the most important remedies to NAFTA is making sure tariffs and duties are lowered or even eliminated completely. He says even with that there are currency problems that are difficult to fix.
Goehring says he and other members of NASDA want to be at the table when NAFTA is renegotiated.
