Names Released in Marshall County Fatal Accident

Names have been released of the two people who died Monday morning in a one-vehicle crash near Veblen.

A 2004 Chevrolet Impala was westbound on 101st Street, which is a gravel road, when the driver lost control. The vehicle went into the ditch and hit a tree.

Samantha Shortman of Rosholt, S.D., who was the 17-year-old female passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene. Bishop Swallow of Nemo, S.D., who was the 18-year-old male driver, died while being flown to a Sioux Falls hospital. Both occupants were wearing seat belts.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. All information is only preliminary at this point.
