Names Released in Fatal Accident West of Tabor

Names have been released of the three people killed in a two-vehicle crash that occurred Thursday afternoon west of Tabor, S.D.

70 yearl old Elaine Rasmussen of Yankton was driving a 2003 Ford Taurus east in the westbound lane on South Dakota Highway 50. It collided head-on with a 1995 Mercury Villager which was traveling west in the appropriate lane. Three members of the same family from Inman, S.C., were in the Mercury Villager.

Those who died were Rasmussen and two people in the Mercury Villager — 48 year old Matthew Carson, who was the driver, and 12 year old Olivia Carson, who was the front seat passenger. A second female passenger, 14, suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. Her name is not being released because she is a minor.

At least two of the four persons involved were not wearing seat belts.

The South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies at the scene were the Bon Homme County Sheriff’s Office, Tyndall and Tabor EMS and Tabor Fire Department.
