A Mt. Vernon, S.D., man has been identified as the person who died early Tuesday morning in a one-vehicle crash northeast of Mt. Vernon.

A 2018 Nissan Frontier was eastbound on 252nd Street when the driver failed to negotiate a curve near the intersection with 399th Avenue. The vehicle left the roadway, vaulted off a driveway and eventually rolled in the south ditch of 252nd Street.

Michael Johnson, 59, was the driver. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. All information pertaining to the crash is preliminary at this time.
