The NAIA announced the 2014 baseball All-Americans and the Northwestern College Red Raiders had multiple players honored for the first time in program history.
GPAC Player of the Year Mitch Peschon earned Second Team honors, becoming the first Red Raider to be listed on an All-American team. Peschon hit .367 this season with 12 doubles, 13 home-runs, 45 RBI, 48 runs scored, and 21 stolen bases. Peschon’s 13 home-runs is the second highest total in a single season behind Ethan Miller’s 17 in 2002. Peschon also finished with 33 walks, good for fourth all time in a single season. Peschon finished the season ranked seventh in the NAIA in home-runs and 10th in slugging percentage. With one year remaining, Peschon is in the top 30 all-time at NWC with 444 at bats (25th), 134 hits (30th), 96 runs scored (29th), 29 doubles (17th), 17 home-runs (7th), 21 HBP (7th), 60 walks (19th), 32 stolen bases (22nd), and 83 RBI (26th). Peschon is playing against NCAA division one all-stars this summer with the Battle Creek Bombers of the Northwoods League. .
Cody Groskreutz earned honorable mention honors after posting one of the best seasons in Northwestern baseball history. Groskreutz hit .359 with 17 doubles, eight triples, three home-runs, 56 RBI, 57 runs scored, and 14 stolen bases. He also earned the GPAC Gold Glove award at shortstop. His 2014 saw him move into the top five single season for runs scored (4th), doubles (4th), triples (2nd), and RBI (3rd). He is the only player in NWC history to have 50+ runs scored and 50+ RBI in the same season. He finished fourth in the NAIA in triples, 23rd in RBI, and 32nd in runs scored. Groskreutz finishes his career in the top of of many statistical categories: third in career hits, second in career runs, fourth in career RBI, fifth in career singles, third in career triples, first in career at bats, second in career walks, and first in career assists defensively.
