This week President Donald Trump said he thinks the U.S. can get a better deal on the North American Free Trade Agreement remake by waiting until after the mid-term elections this fall. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Colin Woodall says it won’t hurt to wait, as long as a positive deal is achieved.
He’s not surprised the NAFTA talks are taking longer than expected and doesn’t think a solution will be reached yet this year. Woodall says the most important thing is for the President to avoid action that would scuttle the agreement.
Woodall says his group wants the President to get the trade war issues solved first and then work on NAFTA and the Korean U.S. Free Trade Agreement update.
Mexico’s President-elect is meeting today with the U.S. Secretaries of Homeland Security and Treasury as well as the White House Senior Economic Adviser to discuss NAFTA.
