National Association of Conservation District’s President Tim Palmer who farms near Truro, Iowa testified in front of a House Ag subcommittee last week. He said conservation programs are being delivered despite the challenges of the pandemic.
He says policy makers need to understand how important Conservation Technical Assistance is to the successful implementation of conservation planning and farm bill conservation programs. Palmer says it’s important those technical assistors be properly funded so NRCS can keep boots on the ground to help producers with their conservation practices.
Palmer says several producers are improving their soil health which has helped conservation. He adds that technology has helped them do that.
Palmer told the Ag sub-committee that it’s clear conservation has a crucial role to play, not only for environmental benefits but also as an engine to help the rebuilding and recovery of the economy.
