National Association of Conservation District Leaders have written to members of the House Senate Conference Committee with their farm bill priorities. NACD President Brent Van Dyke says although the House farm bill called for cutting the Conservation Stewardship Program, says there are good provisions in both the House and Senate measures. He’s hopeful they’ll be able to craft a final farm bill this year.

He says its critical the conferees include solid funding for the Environmental Quality Incentives program.

Van Dyke says he thinks the conference leaders see the important of conservation and is confident they’ll come up with a positive piece of legislation that reflects that.

Van Dyke say it remains to be seen whether or not they’ll be able to avoid extending the farm bill and getting a new one passed before September 30 but he remains hopeful.
