While some cold weather has moved in, a portion of Iowa still has not experienced a killing freeze. State climatologist, Harry Hillaker, says that is a little surprising….
*
While some areas of northeast Iowa have seen temperatures drop well below freezing, Hillaker says some have still not seen readings get down below 35.
*
While they haven’t had the hard freeze that signals the end of the growing season, he says people in those areas may see some frost on the grass in the mornings……

Hillaker says in the Des Moines metro area for example, October 7th and 8th are typically the first freeze date. Hillaker says some areas of the state may go without the hard freeze even after saying good-bye to October at the end of this week.
