A movement is underway to recall the Nebraska Unicameral into special session to consider property tax relief.

Senator Tom Brewer of Gordon leads the 13 senators who have made a formal request for a special session. They need 20 other senators to agree for a special session to be called.

Brewer admits it’s unlikely he has the numbers, but he has a warning for urban senators who might resist the idea. . .

Senator Jim Smith of Omaha, the Revenue Committee chair, doesn’t see a reason to return. . .

Smith made efforts on behalf of Governor Ricketts to find a compromise on property tax relief that would pass this session without success.

An initiative petition is gathering signatures in an effort to place a 1-point-2(B)Billion dollar property tax cut proposal on the November ballot.
