Quarterfinal action at the NAIA Women’s National Tournament in Sioux City wrapped up Saturday with a thrilling game leaving Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) stunned in an upset loss to No. 3 Mount Marty, 98-76.
The Lancers move on to the semifinal round for the first time in school history where they will face the Knights of Marian (Ind.) Monday night at 6 p.m.
With a hometown crowds never ending cheering and support, the Lancers pull off underdog upset win holding the Tigers to a season low 76 points. Mount Marty held Olivet to 28 percent from the field, only connecting on 23-of-86.
The Tigers were not prepared for the Lancers to be able to break its press so easily, but quick passes and minimal dribbling made it easy for Mount Marty to slow down the game in the half court throwing Olivet Nazarene’s fast paced game plan to the side.
Five players from the Lancers recorded double digits on the night, including high scorer Logan Wagner with 23 as well as Raquel Sutera who painted her fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Other stand out players were Alex Kneeland (12), Cassidy Gebhart (10) and Kellie Winckler (20).
