Mosquitoes Carry Old, New Disease Threats

The month of June brings warmer temperatures and an ample supply of moisture. Two ingredients that can lead to high mosquito populations right in our own back yards.
Dr. Theodore Burk, Creighton University entomologist says of special concern this year is a recent mosquito invader known as the Asian Tiger mosquito (Aedes Albopictus), which has potential to be a carrier of the infamous Zika virus.
Burk says the Asian Tiger mosquito also has been recorded in Southeast Nebraska.
Burk says mosquitoes also still carry the West Nile virus…..

He says it doesn’t take long for the mosquito population explode……

Experts say you should wear long sleeves and pants, and use repellent containing DEET to have the best chance of avoiding mosquitoes.
