Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue and U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer have announced that Morocco will begin importing U.S. beef and beef products yet this year. 2018 is the first year that U.S. beef and poultry exporters have access to the Moroccan market under the U.S. Morocco Free Trade Agreement. U.S. Cattlemen’s Association President Kenny Graner is pleased with that market opening and says it comes at a good time for America’s cattle producers.
He says getting more free trade and bilateral deals that eliminate non tariff barriers is helpful for the cattle industry.
As of last month, U.S. ag exports to Morocco totaled more than $512 million dollars. Initial estimates say Morocco could be an $80 million export market for U.S. beef and beef products. Morocco already opened up to U.S. poultry back in August.
