Morningside players swept the weekly awards for the top basketball players in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Men’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week
Kyle Nikkel, Center – Morningside College
Morningside center Kyle Nikkel is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week. Nikkel, a senior from Pella, Iowa, went for a double-double in each of the Mustangs’ two victories and was the game’s leading rebounder in both contests. Against No. 23 Brair Cliff he finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds. In the win over Concordia to clinch a share of the conference title he added 13 points and 11 boards. The Mustangs, ranked No. 7 in the latest NAIA Poll, finished the season 25-3 and 17-3 in the GPAC.
Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week
Ashlynn Muhl, Forward – Morningside College
Morningside forward Ashlynn Muhl is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week. Muhl, a senior from Minneota, Minnesota, had game-high totals of 17 points and 14 rebounds in the Mustangs’ win at No. 17 Briar Cliff and led all performers with nine rebounds in the win over No. 3 Concordia. The 17-point, 14-rebound effort against Briar Cliff was Muhl’s 13th double-double of the season. Morningside, ranked No. 1 in the latest NAIA poll, finished the regular season 30-0 overall and 20-0 in the GPAC.
