The third qualifier of the 2015-16 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women’s Golf season was played on Wednesday in Lincoln, Nebraska, as Morningside won the day and Mount Marty retained the overall lead.
Morningside shot the low team round of the day with a 325, while Dakota Wesleyan carded a 330 and Nebraska Wesleyan a 331. Mount Marty, the team leader heading into the event was fourth on the day with a 339. That score was just low enough to keep them in first place in the overall with a three-round total of 1017 in a tightly contested team race. Dakota Wesleyan is just one stroke back at 1018, Nebraska Wesleyan two back at 1019 and Morningside three back at 1020.
The top individual round of the day went to Allison Depko of Midland who shot a 78. Myla Brown of Morningside was second with a 79 while her teammate Alex Mankle and Logan Wagner of Mount Marty tied for third shooting an 80 on the afternoon. Defending individual medalist Lauren Fitts of Dakota Wesleyan was one of four golfers tied for fifth shooting an 81.
Through three rounds Fitts leads the field by 11 strokes with a total of 232. Wagner and Kelsey Marshal of Nebraska Wesleyan are tied for second (243) while Amy Ahlers of Concordia is fourth (247).
The remaining qualifier will be played on May 2, 2016 at Wild Oak Golf Course in Mitchell, South Dakota, to determine the 2015-16 GPAC Women’s Golf Champion and Individual Medalist.
The GPAC will qualify two teams for the NAIA National Golf Championships. The medalist, if not a member of the championship team, will also advance to the championships.
