A pair of Morningside golfers are the weekly award winners in that sport for the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
Women – Anjana Cordes, Morningside College
Anjana Cordes of Morningside is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women’s Golfer-of-the-Week. Cordes, a freshman, from Bad Vibel, Germany, was runner-up at the Briar Cliff Lila Frommelt Falls Classic to help the Mustangs successfully defend their team title. Three of her four rounds during the week were 78. Her opening round 78 at the Briar Cliff Lila Frommelt Classic helped the Mustangs tie their school record for low score with a 323. Cordes is the Mustangs’ season leader with an 18-hole scoring average of 80.2.
Men – Zach Ward, Morningside College
Zach Ward of Morningside is the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men’s Golfer-of-the-Week. Ward, a junior from Waterloo, Iowa, had the low individual score in the field in both rounds of the Ottawa Invitational to finish with a three-under par 141 to win medalist honors by a five-stroke margin. Ward’s exploits helped Morningside capture the team championship by a 12-stroke margin over runner-up Kansas City Kansas Community College. Ward leads the Mustangs with a 73.2-stroke scoring average so far this season.
