The basketball Players of the Week in the Great Plains Athletic Conference both come from Morningside College this week.
Women – Madison Braun, Morningside College (Guard)
Morningside guard Madison Braun is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports women’s basketball player-of-the-week. Braun, a senior from Bellevue, Nebraska, went 8-of14 from beyond the arc and scored 18 points in each of the Mustangs’ two GPAC triumphs against Northwestern and Midland. Braun also had a game-high five steals and seven rebounds for one of the top board efforts of her career in the win against Northwestern. Braun is the NAIA II national leader with 51 3-point field goals and also ranks among the NAIA II national leaders with 33 steals, a scoring average of 19.9 points per game and a 3-point shooting accuracy mark of 51.0 percent.
Men – Tyler Borchers, Morningside College (Center)
Morningside center Tyler Borchers is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports men’s basketball player-of-the-week. Borchers, a sophomore from LeMars, Iowa, had game-high totals of 23 points, 10 rebounds and five assists to lead the Mustangs to an 86-71 upset win against No. 1-ranked Northwestern to hand the Red Raiders their first loss of the season. He led the Mustangs with 23 points in their win against Midland. Borchers drilled 21 of 30 field goal attempts for 70.0 percent in the Mustangs’ two victories. He is the Mustangs’ leading scorer and rebounder with averages of 16.4 points and 8.3 rebounds per game and also tops the team with an average of 1.6 blocked shots per game and in field goal percentage at 60.7 percent.
