The Mustangs of Morningside (Iowa) are moving on to their fourth women’s national championship final game in school history after a 66-63 win over Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) foe Hastings (Neb.).
Hastings’ season ends at 25-9. Morningside (36-1) lives to play another day, and will face No. 1 seed and 3rd ranked Concordia (Neb.) on Tuesday night. The Mustangs have faced the Bulldogs three times this year with the Concordia owning the most recent win, 80-72, on March 3 in the GPAC tournament championship game. Morningside won the two regular season matchups.
The 2014-15 Concordia University women’s basketball team has leapt a hurdle never before cleared in the history of the program. On Monday night the third-ranked Bulldogs blitzed No. 19 Briar Cliff down the stretch and pulled away for a 72-62 win in the national semifinals. The victory vaulted Concordia into the NAIA Division II women’s basketball national final for the first time ever.
