Two Morningside athletes were among the four honored by the Great Plains Athletic Conference this week for baseball and softball.
Baseball…
Pitcher – Lucas Henning, Morningside College
Lucas Henning of Morningside is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports pitcher-of-the-week. Henning, a senior from Worthington, Minnesota, tossed a no-hitter with a career-high 13 strikeouts in the Mustangs’ 5-0 victory against Winnipeg.
Player – Joe Genoways, Morningside College (Outfield)
Morningside’s Joe Genoways is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports baseball player-of-the-week. Genoways, a junior from Fort Calhoun, Nebraska, hit .600 with six doubles, two home runs and 10 RBIs in the Mustangs’ four-game sweep of Winnipeg. He went 3-for-4 with three doubles in the first game of the series and went four-for-five with two doubles, two home runs and eight RBIs in a 10-0 win the finale.
Softball…
Pitcher – Haileigh Arthur, Doane University
Doane’s Haileigh Arthur is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports pitcher-of-the-week. Arthur, a sophomore from Sacramento, California, threw a one-hitter in the opener, facing one batter over the minimum as she shut down York College. She added a scoreless 7th inning in the second game including a pair of strikeouts.
Player – Nicki Larsen, College of Saint Mary (Outfield/Pitcher)
Nicki Larsen of the College of Saint Mary is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports softball player-of-the-week. Larsen, a junior from Waverly, Nebraska, went 9-for-11 in the final four games of an eight game road trip for the Flames. During those games she notched a home run, three doubles and four stolen bases.
