Morningside athletes dominated the list of weekly Great Plains Athletic Conference top performers in softball and tennis.
Rachel Henks of Morningside is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports pitcher-of-the-week. Henks, a senior from Lee’s Summit, Missouri, went 5-0 with a 1.31 earned run average and allowed only 14 hits in 32 innings to improve her season’s record to 29-6. Henks allowed only three hits in 19 innings over her last three starts, including a no-hitter in her regular season finale against Midland.
Rachel Koch of Morningside is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports softball player-of-the-week. koch, a senior from Denison, Iowa, hit .444 with three home runs and 10 RBIs to lead the Mustangs to a 6-0 week. Koch blasted three home runs in the last week of the regular season after having hit only one home run going into the week. She has hit safely in 14 of the last 15 games to raise her batting average to .371.
Danny Graves of Morningside is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men’s Tennis Player-of-the-Week. Graves, a senior from Sioux City, Iowa,won both of his No. 1 singles matches in straight sets against Midland and Mount Marty to extend his winning streak to four matches. He also picked up a pair of wins in #1 doubles to complete the perfect week.
