As the growth in electric customers and consumption continues for Southeastern Electric, they are upgrading and protecting their system by putting more power lines underground.

Southeastern, based in Marion, serves both rural customers, and a growing residential base near Sioux Falls.

Schardin says they put more service underground as part of their maintenance program…

 

Schardin says they try to replace line every year, but it is expensive…

 

There was extensive damage to many power lines in and around Sioux Falls during the ice storm in April of 2013.
