South Dakota State University running back Zach Zenner and wide receiver Jake Wieneke were named Tuesday to The Sports Network Football Championship Subdivision All-America Team.
Zenner, a senior from Eagan, Minnesota, earned first-team recognition for the third consecutive season. In 2014, he becamed the first player in Division I history to reach the 2,000-yard mark in three consecutive seasons, finishign the year with 2,019 yards and 22 rushing touchdowns. Zenner added 28 receptions for 331 yards and four touchdowns in 2014.
The Sports Network All-America honor was the fifth in the span of two weeks for Zenner, who also earned first-team recognition from the American Football Coaches Association, Walter Camp Football Foundation, Associated Press and the FCS Athletic Directors Association.
Wieneke, a redshirt freshman from Maple Grove, Minnesota, burst onto the scene by averaging 19.7 yards every time he touched the ball in 2014. The runner-up for the Jerry Rice Award as the top freshman among FCS players, Wieneke tallied 73 receptions for 1,404 yards and 16 touchdowns through the air while adding 52 rushing yards. His reception and receiving yard totals were the second most in a season in school history, while his 16 touchdowns set a new SDSU single-season mark and tied the Missouri Valley Football Conference record.
Wieneke also was a a second-team All-America selection by The Associated Press this season.
