Cash registers will be busy this holiday season, that according to Creighton University Economist Ernie Goss. He says the drop in gas prices leaves more money for other things.

The busiest shopping day of the year isn’t what it used to be. Retailers typically opened very early the day after Thanksgiving to usher in the holiday shopping season by offering great deals. Goss says that has changed.

It is predicted U-S consumers will save $61-billion dollars at the pump in 2015 compared to this year. Goss says gas prices are very hard to predict so the best they can do is make an educated guess. He says holiday retail sales will be up 6% to 7% this year compared to the 2% the past few years.
