The Waterways Council along with 40 other business groups have some concerns with the President’s budget plan as it regards the country’s waterways system. Council President and CEO Mike Toohey says they want Congress to provide $ 407 million more in funding for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for fiscal year 2016.

Toohey says there is also more money needed for inland waterway construction projects and his group is trying to convince lawmakers to fund those.

Toohey says his group also wants Congress and the President to at least maintain 2015 funding levels for some of the locks and dams projects.

Toohey says its important that proper funding is doled out so navigation channel and inland waterways will be able to provide safe and efficient freight movement.
