Wednesday Monsanto announced its commercial launch plans for Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybeans after receiving import approval in China. U.S. Soybean Marketing Manager Miriam (Mure-ee-um) Paris says the soybean trait has been highly anticipated by farmers and will be available for the 2016 season in the U.S. and Canada.
Paris says although Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybeans are tolerant to both glyphosate and dicamba herbicides, the use of dicamba is not approved yet by EPA. However, farmers can use the existing Roundup Ready PLUS crop management system for tough-to-control and glyphosate-resistant weeds.
She does anticipate the approval of dicamba for use on this new biotech soybean solution within the next few months.
Monsanto has seen good demand and pre-orders for the Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybeans and estimates up to 3 million acres of the product will be planted in the upcoming growing season.
