A coalition of Agricultural groups including the National Corn Growers Association and National Association of Wheat Growers have joined Monsanto in a lawsuit filed against California. The litigation is aimed at stopping the state from requiring cancer warning labels on products containing glyphosate, a component of Round-Up. NCGA Board member and South Dakota farmer Keith Alverson says the California regulation is not science based.
He says the California law if allowed to stand up could have major impacts on Glyphosate use across the country.
Alverson is disappointed California officials ignored the evidence that Glyphosate has been commonly used by farmers and is a safe product.
Several state groups have joined the coalition challenging the California rule including the South Dakota Agri-Business Association and the North Dakota Grain Growers Association.
