MoDak Dairy of Goodwin, South Dakota opened their doors to the public Saturday as part of June Dairy Month. Co-owner Greg Moes says this is just one of many open houses they’ve held at the dairy over the years. He says this family operation includes two of his sons, his brother and nephew. They also employ several families.

Moes says they want the public to see how what is involved in running their 2000 plus cow dairy operation. He gets a lot of questions about why dairy farms are larger in size, but says it’s because it’s the most efficient economically.

He says despite their size they work hard to be good neighbors. Dairymen must following strict environmental restrictions set by the state regarding how their manure is contained and spread on crops as fertilizer.

The June Dairy Month promotion was organized in part by Ag United of South Dakota. Nearly 700 people attended.
