After a hiatus last year due to the pandemic, June Dairy Month farm tours are resuming including MoDak Dairy near Goodwin, South Dakota which held an open house on Saturday. They’re celebrating 30 years and carried on a tradition they’ve held nearly all of the years they’ve been in operation. Co-owner Greg Moes says the public was excited to come back out and see their 2,000-cow facility and milking parlor, which harvests 70 million pounds of milk annually.
Moes says their goal is to show consumers what dairy farmers do to bring safe and nutritious milk and dairy products to their tables and answer commonly asked questions like how they use antibiotics in their production.
He says MoDak also used the open house to show the public their new replacement heifer unit, that is still under construction.
Consumers got the full dairy experience as they were treated to a range of dairy products from grilled cheese, to malts, milk and cheese. Royalwood Dairy near Brandon will hold an open house next Saturday.
