The Minnesota Soybean Growers Association finalized its 2022 policy resolutions during its Annual Meeting in Mankato. President Mike Skaug says the state legislative session begins on January 31 and they’ll be asking for additional dollars for the Ag Innovation Campus in Crookston as inflation is driving up building prices.
He says they continue to push for a low carbon fuels standard in the state that utilizes biofuels. This year they celebrate 20 years of success with the statewide biodiesel mandate in Minnesota.
Skaug says they’ll also be seeking funding for rural infrastructure in 2022 to handle heavier trucks and get product to market, that also includes rural broadband. Plus, they’re seeking a reduction in the tax burden for farmers.
Minnesota Soybean also identified continuing to protect pesticide use as a priority. Last year they ensured farmers weren’t hit by unnecessary pesticide fee increases, saving million of dollars in registration costs. Skaug says they also fought against bills to ban dicamba in 2021 and will oppose similar legislation this session.
