Poultry producers in Minnesota are taking steps to prepare in case bird flu returns this fall. Steve Olson, Executive Director for the Minnesota Turkey Growers and Chicken and Egg Association says they’re working with state officials and are putting specific protective steps in place.
Olson says producers have tightened their biosecurity measures since last spring’s outbreak and are trying a new biosecurity method in their facilities.
He says even though they’re not expecting as severe an outbreak as this spring they’re preparing anyway.
He says USDA is also helping by improving their response to a possible HPAI outbreak. Olson says they’ve streamlined reporting and processing of the disease and are working with trading partners to show them how we’ve got the disease under control.
