The Minnesota Milk Producers Association set policy and elected a new president at their recent state convention. Dave Buck, who farms near Goodhue, was elected to lead the group. He says one policy priority calls for a fix to the rising cost of health insurance and he’s already spoken with some state lawmakers about the problem.
He says they also approved policy asking for a change in the national margin protection insurance program. He says the safety net program included in the last farm bill is a problem because it’s heavily weighted on feed costs.
Buck says says their members are also asking for funding to fix the state’s infrastructure.
Buck also says their Association is continuing their support of the new dairy research facility at the University of Minnesota.
