MN Lawmakers Clarify Buffer Rule

Minnesota lawmakers are continuing to debate the Governor’s buffer modification bill and determining what clarifications will be included in it. State Farmers Union Government Relations Director Thom Petersen says the measure has cleared the Senate Ag Committee with its next stop the environment committee this week. He says positive clarifications have been made to it including how enforcement is handled.

He says there are still some clarifications that need to be made including determining how the dispute process is handled.

Petersen says he expects the measure to move ahead as a stand alone piece of legislation which should help its chances of passing both the Senate and House and getting signed by the Governor.

Last year’s Minnesota legislature approved the buffer law and this year lawmakers are in the process of tweaking it.
