Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton signed 10 budget bills this week that contain provisions beneficial for the state’s farmers and ranchers. Minnesota Soybean Growers Association Director of Public Affairs Joe Smentek says at the same time the Governor also vetoed funding for both the State House and Senate. However, that won’t affect agriculture.

He says one of the bills signed by the Governor will provide significant tax relief for farmers.

Smentek says another bill provides funding to fight Palmer Amaranth, a weed that can cause up to 80-percent yield loss in soybeans.

Smentek says the budget bill also contains a provision which prevents farmers from having to verify the need to use neonicotinoid seed treatments, as long as they’re following state and federal regulations.
