Minnesota Governor Tim Walz announced he is proposing a drought relief package for the state’s farmers and ranchers in the upcoming special legislative session. Walz and Ag Commissioner Thom Peterson made the announcement at a farm just outside the Twin Cities on Friday.
Peterson says they have put $5 million in the state’s loan program and will be asking state legislators for an additional $5 million.
He says there are federal drought assistance programs, but additional help is needed for livestock producers.
Peterson says this has been one of the worst droughts in the state’s history.
