Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton has written to the state’s Congressional delegation asking for a more thorough review of the various mega ag mergers in the seed and chemical business. Minnesota Farmers Union’s Government Relations Director Thom Petersen says his organization is very concerned with the concentration developing in the industry and is pleased with the Governor’s leadership on the issue.

He says ag business concentration is getting worse and farmers will be left with fewer choices for their seed and herbicides if it isn’t addressed.

Petersen says his group would like to see more anti-trust power given to the Department of Justice in dealing with those mergers. He’s disappointed there hasn’t been tougher review of those mega mergers in the past.

Petersen says his group is mostly concerned with the mergers involving Dow and DuPont, Bayer and Monsanto, plus Syngenta with ChemChina.
