Minnesota Farmers Union is supporting legislation introduced Thursday in the State Senate to ask for a federal waiver to offer a health care option in the state. Minnesota Farmers Union Vice President Gary Wertish says this would be positive for farmers and spoke in favor of the measure sponsored by Senator Kathy Sheran.

He says the new option will make health care more accessible to rural Minnesotans as well as more affordable.

Wertish says there is a definite need for this program.

A companion bill has also been introduced in the Minnesota House of Representatives.
