Minnesota Farmers Union leaders have set their 2016 state legislative priorities. Farmers Union’s Director of Government Relations Thom Petersen says they’re looking at four major areas including clarification of the new buffer law, property tax relief, an extension of farmer lender mediation and funding for transportation.

Petersen says they’ll have to work quickly with the shorter session. He says some tweaks are needed to the buffer law due with many unanswered questions.

He says his group isn’t opposed to increasing the gas tax to help pay for roads and bridges but they don’t believe even a modest increase will occur.

Minnesota lawmakers convene in St. Paul on March 8.
