Minnesota Farmers Union members are concerned about ag consolidation with several proposed mergers being considered in the seed and crop protection business. Farmers Union’s Government Relations Director Thom Petersen says farmers stand to lose the most from the deal involving Bayer and Monsanto, which took another step forward this week.

He says his group will be speaking with members of Congress, including the Minnesota delegation, about these mergers and the possible negative impacts when they head to the nation’s capital next week.

Petersen says his organization is pleased the Justice Department has filed an antitrust lawsuit against Deere and Company regarding their proposed merger.

Petersen says they also work closely with their state attorney general whenever any concentration or merger issues come up.
