State legislative sessions are getting underway or have already started in the region, with Minnesota to convene on February 11 in St. Paul. Minnesota Farmers Union Government Relations Director Stu Lourey says getting enough bonds financed to fund the Rural Finance Authority is one of their top goals.

He says the skyrocketing cost of health care is a major concern for their members and an issue they would like lawmakers to address.

Lourey says they’re also urging legislators to pass a measure to conform state Section 179 expensing with federal tax law.

Section 179 is the tax deduction farmers can take for purchasing new equipment.
