Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton has unveiled his budget proposal. It calls for close to $700 million of new spending and $117 million for tax relief. Minnesota Farm Bureau’s State Policy Director Doug Busselman says there’s little or no real tax relief contained in that budget for farmers and ranchers.
He says the while one of the Governor’s priorities is for a comprehensive transportation bill, farm bureau does not support his proposal to fund it with higher taxes.
Busselman says his group wants state legislators to approve a transportation bill but want it to be paid for through existing programs.
Currently Minnesota has a budget surplus of $900 million and lawmakers will also be debating how to use that money.
